On Deathbird Earth + Nick Millevoi, the band comes together with intrepid guitar explorer Nick Millevoi—best known for his work with Many Arms, Desertion Trio, and as sonic architect of BASIC—to deliver a set of explosive, hard-hitting journeys. Struck by a collective lightning bolt of inspiration, the trio meld prog and psychedelia à la Hawkwind with the dark introspection of Neil Young’s soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch’s Dead Man with equal parts focus and abandon. Bookended by the same spiraling riff and swirling synth drones, each of the album’s six passages remain grounded in riff-centric heavy rock while fearlessly seeking the musical cosmos.
